Soul Song by Mikea Howard

Soul Song (Soul Mate Tree #10) - Mikea Howard

This book was provided to me free of charge in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are definitely my own

This book is not a stand alone from obvious as I felt so lost when I first started reading it. This is book #2.5 in the author's own series called 'The Diesel War', so it would have been nice to know some backstory or something to be able to follow this along.

Like a "catch me up" synopsis before the actual story maybe? Now I was thinking not the entire store will have this shifter thing going on but boy was I wrong. They have so many of them such as werewolf shifters, eagle shifters, good vs bad shifters, Gods and Goddesses.

This book is about Guatimozin, Tim, an eagle shifter that helps people in the realm between life and death cross over to their loved ones. He is quite selfless and has never want for anything until he meets Dottie.

The writing style is fluid, well developed, and at a steady pace with the authors doing a great job with the worldbuilding and really provided so much detail in their writing that it was easy to picture.

However, There are some very predictable scenes yet there are still a few unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming! Unfortunately, I had a really hard time following along and had to re-read several passages over and over again.

So, this book is filled with the characters, settings, scenes, backstory, and language; called Diesel Speak from the author’s other book series, The Diesel War Book Series. This certainly made things more complicated and confusing. I definitely felt like I had walked into the middle of a movie, instead of what I had come to know with these mostly standalone Soul Mate Tree Books.

So, I cannot suggest this book to be read as a standalone. However, you do not need to read the previous nine Soul Mate Tree Books to understand this one; in fact, that wont help at all. I would suggest reading the first two books of The Diesel War Book Series before picking up this book.

I read and review books in the middle of the series with fair amount of the time having not read the previous books in that series. Usually, I have no trouble following along. Yes, there is overlap of characters, backstory, settings, etc. However, most authors gently remind the reader about what happened in the previous book(s) during the first couple chapters. Yes, I probably wont get all the inside jokes and not realize some things, but I can still read the book and get the jiff of things. With this book, I felt like I might as well have been reading it in a different laungage I could barely understand. Which is truly sad to say, because I loved the characters, great storyline, fantastic world-building, immaculate attention to details, fluid writing style, and I am loving the Soul Mate Tree Books. So, I was quite heartbroken and disappointed that this book didn’t live up to its predecessors.

With that being said I did enjoy reading the book even though I found myself rereading a few passages. Being confused at turns and seeing where this book ended was all beauiful. I hate that I was walking into a middle of a series but glad I found this book as I will be looking into the Diesel War Books to catch up where I am know. This book will be recommended to anyone who loves romantic, fantasy or paranormal readers. Which is why I give Soul Song a four and half out of five stars.

So Many Secrets, Breakdown Book 2 by Vicki Hinze

So Many Secrets - Vicki Hinze

I received this advance copy from Goddess Fish Promotions and Pink House Press for a honest review!

AND the story to continues for the saga of Shutter Lake in the Breakdown Series.

I’m hooked and intrigued as this book flows from the previous author which goes so smoothly I almost forgot they were all different authors! That is some amazing work and I am quite impressed in these ladies for that.. Plus I am bamboozled, I don’t know who the killer is which just has me absorbing everything into this book and the desire to know the secrets which Dana has been hiding from EVERYONE. Such a great series, very cool how each author focuses on one chapter. Strong, bright women! Love it especially seeing this book from Dana's point of view.

There are still LOTS of questions and new leads with more answers left without a answer. The ending crept up on me and was not as shocking as the first book but was wonderful. I love the first 2 books so far and looking forward to reading the 3rd! The characters are so complex and the level of depth into the overall stories are wonderful.

Again this book flowed from the last like slicing into butter. It was so good! I really im impressed at how well these authors write together and appeal to readers for each author along with mystery/suspense/thriller readers!

The Dead Girl, Breakdown Book 1 by Debra Webb

The Dead Girl - Debra Webb

I received this advance copy from Goddess Fish Promotions and Pink House Press for a honest review!

It's a small Magical world Ms. Webb as we live in the same city! Did you vote for the Trash Pandas? I did but now I feel bad about it...

Anyway! Onto my review of The Dead Girl of Shutter Lake. What a town to live in when it is described like a paradise or that perfect town you dream about until something horrible happens. A murder in the little town of Shutter lake. What a way to start a book Ms. Webb! Within moments I was sucked and almost was late from my lunch during the fiscal new year.

We are introduced to the cast where we focuse on Deputy Chief of Police Laney Holt, and the chief of police, Griff McCabe. They struggle to solve the first heinous crime to be committed in their peaceful town like any good series goes such as one I was watching last year on Netflix! A haunting past for both Laney and Griff is there to possibly make it hard to solve the crime..... Or does it not get in the way?

As they continue to get further in the investigation we a glimpse into the life of the victim. She the surface seems to be a kind, generous benefactor to those closest to her yet why was she killed? This made me feel like I was watching an hour long Investigation Discovery segment which I could sink my teeth into! I began to wonder who the victim really was and if she really is who everyone thought she was. Perhaps a mistake for the criminal who murdered her yet signs are pointing in all directions. If they’re not careful all their secrets may come boiling up before this story is done as we experience life through Laney Holt's eyes in Shutter Lake.

Grabbing you head on and having you on the edge of your seat about to fall off as page by page more comes out yet not enough to solve it.. You start to go one way then BANG! You were guessing wrong. Even until the end I was guessing left and right while trying to see if I just read a foreshadow or something to put me off the murderers tracks.  your attention and have you balanced on the edge of your seat. I am anxious to see what secrets will begin to be revealed as we follow the tale of the murder of Sylvia Cole.

Haven by Celia Breslin

Haven - Celia Breslin

I received this Arc at no cost to me for a honest review.

Treat yourself to this sexy page-turner with a tough heroine, snarky humorous, sensuality and family drama.

I thoroughly enjoyed HAVEN. I’m more of a romance reader than urban fantasy, and the connection between Alexander and Rina captivated me, while family mysteries and great world building kept me enthralled. I guess you could say I am in the target audience that the author was looking for!

Carina who owns a nightclub with amazing and loyal friends. The only thing odd about her is the lapse in memory from when she was younger and to make things even more weird she is attacked by a crazed witch.  Uh oh!!

Rina is a fun party girl and her sassy, and not exactly snarky, voice is strong—you experience this story powerfully through her eyes, from deep within her point of view. I am hoping for a good reason that Rina never gets to see her father in this book since he is still in Italy. There was no better way to protect her than stripping her of all her memories? Especially when these are the highest level in the vampire society and they can't handle her protection?

The story kept you interested but all the characters have a history and secrets in their past. Yet when you did find out about the history your left without answers to explain or elaborate more. I felt a bit flustered from this but I was able to still highly enjoy this book. Told in the first person, this also for me, runs the risk of, "See how clever and feisty I am?" but I never got annoyed with Rina's narration.

Each turn of the page was juicy and had me rereading it to make sure nothing was missed. You should pick this one up!

Three Lessons in Seduction by Sofie Darling

Three Lessons in Seduction - Sofie Darling

I received this arc at no cost to myself for a honest review.

The flow of the flashbacks seemed almost effortless. Descriptions of Paris and London was so picturesque and made you feel as if you were there with Mariana or Nick. The language was daunting but a little footnote of translations could keep a lot of readers going in my opinion since they either are not using a kindle or have a hard copy. Just a thought! So i am comfortable giving this book 4 out of 5 star review. :

Hostile Takeover by Cristelle Comby

Hostile Takeover - Cristelle Comby

I received this arc at no cost to myself for a honest review.

Overall the book is wonderful steadfast reading with a swift pacing that is very easy to follow with everything you need for a perfect investigation for a private investigator. I loved all the action and different happenings where mystical creatures and how things were just in the last chapter alone had me flipping pages so quickly to have answers but then it just ended.. I was turning the page hoping for more but nope.. Gotta read the next book! All the events through the middle with notable characters and descriptions of scenes had you there with P.I Vale yet somehow you are safe but P.I Vale is in for a long.. Long ride. You need to read this and I think my review just doesn't give this book justice.

The Millennial's Guide to Changing the World: A New Generation's Handbook to Being Yourself and Living with Purpose by Alison Lea Sher

The Millennial's Guide to Changing the World: A New Generation's Handbook to Being Yourself and Living with Purpose - Alison Lea Sher

I received this ARC at no cost to me for a honest review.

This book was a pleasing experience where I felt enlightened and experience of growth once I had put this book down. I highly recommend this for generations to come before and after the millennial because it is a wonderful breath of fresh air to the honest truth behind Sher's words whom need reassurance and hope along with the ones who need the insightful read. I can happily give it 3.5 stars due to the fact I disconnected and very bobbled down by terms like I was readying a book for class. It could help anyone who read it to understand the Millennial struggle but it just wasn't a book for me although I am in the demographic the book speaks of.

Blood Thirsty by Elizabeth St. John

Homecoming - Elizabeth St. John

Overall a great plot and story line for this book. Seemed so short and a lot of the pages read like a middle or high school diary. Some of it was easy while other parts was more like books of famous authors. Written like butter and slowly feed to you while you soak up every word that is on that page. Turning page by page before you know it half of the book is gone but with this one it seemed the author changed writing styles halfway through as if the author wasn't the author anymore. More editing would be lovely and come out with a revised version. Much work needed by this author but her dreams can be reached. The one character I loved was not the main one but Es or Esmeralda which comes into play a handful of times. Overall I give this book 2.5 stars due to the ending, the way the author seems to change and readability of this novel.

Tempted by the Viscount by Sofie Darling

Tempted by the Viscount - Sofie Darling

I received this ARC at no cost to myself for a honest review.

From the inauspicious beginning with unexpected romance yet completely predictable for most readers. However, there is excellent storytelling like the first book a read from Mrs. Darling, The characters as the first book was very interesting as well along with the possibility to grow on future books is ginormous. This book happens to be a standalone in an interconnected series which is amazing and I was not prepared for this knowledge as I kept thinking the characters from the first book would make more of an appearance then they did but it was nice getting to know more about Olivia in the second book. I'm hoping to see Olivia's uncle from the first book in the third installment along with Percy, Olivia's dead/resurrected husband. This reasoning with the flowery language is why I gave this 4 stars out of 5. I feel the flowery language helped passed this story off and prove true to the time. I highly recommend this book!

Death of a Russian Doll by Barbara Early

Death of a Russian Doll - Barbara Early

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Things get complicated for Liz as things progress in the book. The twist, witty banter and interesting happenings through the book. One I could easily put down then pick it back up but I somehow could not even when I should. Where I was left with warm and fuzzies after finishing this book.. But will Liz prove the prime suspect innocent? Will things work out, will you figure out whodunit or will things get more complicated? How about you read this book I give 5 out of 5 stars to find out for yourself.

Crimson by Tamela Miles

Crimson - Tamela Miles

The feeling of watching buffy the vampire slayer in pajamas become very strong while reading this or cuddling up to my cat while watching random vampire movies around halloween. I feel ms Miles did a wonderful job en-capturing just how these bad boys work with their hypnotic pull and sexy ways about them.

The underworld of vampires and other nocturnal beings was definitely not for this little, gentle mouse.

(Page 6).

Given this information Delilah and Ash were the perfect due although they kinda started off very fast passed yet believable. Mrs. Miles' starts us by showing how these two met which of course would make sense if you had a no good brother with debts which she tried to settle but ends up owing more than a few thousand which would send myself or anyone into a crazy spiral. Of course her younger brother is shown around as the easily to fold under pressure with no resistance to quit gambling.. Which anyone with a addiction would not do. That stricken me as weird.

Ash tapped his cell phone screen, saving the voicemail he had listened to from William Watts, one of the elder members of the Vampire Council. His mind was spinning with the possibilities of what he wanted to discuss. The elder had been a key member of the council over a hundred years before Ash had been turned. He genuinely liked him and respected his wisdom, which he couldn’t say about many vamps.

(Page 34).

Now enter into the world of bad vampires and a spiteful queen whom has ideas along with a fate for Delilah that anyone could smell. Welcome to steamy, hot and sexy fast read with well rounded main characters with somewhat back dropped characters as story fillers. Still a lovely read!

Perfect Mistake by Sophia Karlson

Perfect Mistake (Perfect, #1) - Sophia Karlson

I received this ARC from Goddessfishpromotions in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by this author and the synopsis actually made me interested in this book. Interesting because I am normally not but very excited to read her work!

Very much enjoyed this easy spunky heroine of romance read. If i am trying to rekindle my romance I think the setting of bustling Dar es Salaam and the safari belt of Eastern Africa is a perfect. However, there are ivory tracking and other dangerous moments that is happening around them. How will this survive this and rekindle that flame?

Perfect weekend or rainy day reading. Sadly for me I was cuddled up on a chair next to a fan because of the scorching heat outside - just means I got to pretend I was on a lovely safari with our characters Carlo & Simone.  I'm a fan of exotic locations such as rain-forest destinations, ancient ruins of Mesopotamia and secret baby romances because that is exactly what we love right??

Well this one hit it right on the head. Perfect!

Flawed by Vivian Kohlman

Flawed - Vivian Kohlman

I received this ARC from Goddessfishpromotions in exchange for an honest review.

If you want to know what it is like to live a rich kid life this would be it: spending left and right and running away to get over a heartbreak. Something everyone does.. but not to London or Beirut for a few days. Maybe on vacation but hey if i could go on a impromptu vacation to a different country I would because a heartbreak or sadness.

That was my only issue while reading the book but makes sense I guess; The story of missed love and re-connection that goes wrong so many times then leaves you with a cliffhanger due to it seems she FINALLY met the right guy. If this isn't a young adult read then I don't know what is because this screams it with the crying and the angst throughout the book. Defiantly will need to pickup the next book to know what happened!

Margaritas, Mayhem & Murder by Mary Cunningham

Margaritas, Mayhem and Murder - Mary Cunningham

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Overall I felt the romance was forced then rushed through which seemed out of place with the story. I think with the length of the book there was not enough time to develop that romance into it with everything else was going on and honestly could of just left it as a spark then on a following book bring in more romance and we get to see the romance blossom over time. That would be so epic! The writing style was superb and a couple times I was going back pages to make sure I didn't miss something. Just like how I would want a mystery to be! Like wait.. Did this just happen?? HOLD up didn't it foreshadow someone else?? WOAAAAAH.

Andi Jones mystery is a lovely series and I would happily pick up the next one. Great job Mary and I give your book MARGARITAS, MAYHEM, AND MURDER 3.5 out of 5 stars! (will be putting 4 stars cause I feel closer to 4 but not exactly)

Women who Love Monsters by Lori Perkins

Women Who Love Monsters - Cynthia Ward, Katherine Ramsland, Laura Antoniou, Jennifer M. Bay-Williams, Cecilia Minden, Stanley G. Webb, Alfonso Gambardella, Trinity Blacio, Jamie K. Schmidt, Amy Stilgenbauer, Nathan Pettigrew, Jeffrey Archer, Truth Venson

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A great book with many little stories from different authors. A few stories I was drawn to more than others while some I just did not care for. A few I hope will become actual novels like The Beast, The Vampire's Heart, The Ripper Letter.

This book did a wonderful job with listing the stories by which author so you can easily navigate to whom you wanted to read or just read from cover to cover. Very short excerpts, stories, chapters of the book, and so forth that kept things on their toes but these 13 women sure stepped out of their comfort zone to see what it is like to love a monster.

Wrong Light by Matt Coyle

Wrong Light - Matt Coyle

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Set in present day San Diego

Naomi Hendrix, known only as the sultry voice every lonely man listens to late at night, until... someone begins leaving threatening love letters and a promise of a union.

Rick Cahill is hired for her security at the local radio station, meanwhile juggling dangerous people from his past. Somehow he music do both and quickly before more people die but Naomi does not want the police involved, which makes Rick’s job more difficult.

The novel is about stalking, murder and crime.I love dark thrillers and this certainly did not disappoint. The action mostly takes place at night. Rick is constantly under threat of being killed by some Russian’s who are trying to protect a secret. There is a lot of action and murders throughout this novel. There is conflict and not to mention attraction between Rick, Naomi and the police.

How Coyle swichted between the two crimes is perfect while staying focused on getting Naomi and Ricks story out there. Love it
